School Community Picnic

Tonight the School Community Group held its annual family picnic. It was a great night with a picnic on the front lawn followed by some good old fashioned games like 3-legged races, tug of wars and wheelbarrow races.

Purple Cake Day

At Nelson Central School we are gearing up for Purple Cake Day. We have been busy making cup cakes and flags for the annual event on March 1st. This day is organised to celebrate and empower children to help other children in their world. In 2011 the money raised is going towards Haiti to assist in building a school and towards the Christchurch earthquake appeal.

Purple Cake Day has been instigated by Emily Sanson-Rejouis who lost two daughters, Kofie-Jade (5) and Zenzie (3), and her husband Emmanuel, in the Haiti earthquake in January 2010. To find out more about purple cake day go to http://www.purplecakeday.org/get-involved/. You might even see some photos of NCS families on there!

Kahikatea Tryathalon

Yesterday we had our Kahikatea Tryathlon. It was a tryathalon with a difference, can you figure out why? Read what some of us wrote today!

In the triathlon I was a swimmer. There were other people running and scootering. I tried my best. It was fun. I liked being a triathlete. Nissy

It was after morning tea. I was very excited because it was the time of the Kahikatea triathlon. I met Sue outside the classroom on the hill. When I got there all the swimmers started walking up to the swimming pool. I got changed up there. Then we came down the hill where everybody was. The red team went first. Then the blue team. I started to get really hot but finally it was my group. I ran up to the swimming pool . I hopped into the pool and swam my two lengths then hopped out again and tagged my runner. I had an awesome time because I liked the swim. Sophie

After morning tea our syndicate did a triathlon. It was at the front field. I did the scootering in my team and two other boys were in my team too. I really enjoyed the triathlon. I really enjoyed it because all of my friends were doing it and I love scootering. Lucy

On Wednesday we had a triathlon. You could swim, scooter or run. It was my first triathlon ever. I was really excited because I am fast on my scooter. I was in Red five with Karly from Room 7 and Nikkita from Room 8. Karly swam, Nikkita ran and I scootered. It was only for Kahikatea syndicated. It was really fun. Mika

Congratulations Aria!

Today we held our elections for the Kahikatea Ambassadors on the Student Council. 3 children from Room 5 were brave enough to stand for the election and present a speech in front of the whole of the Kahikatea syndicate! Congratulations Aria, who along with Bailey were elected and will no doubt represent our syndicate well

Little Buddies

Yesterday we were very excited because we got to meet our new 'little buddies' from Room 11. For some of us this was the first time that we have been a 'big buddy'. Today we had a swimming session with Room 11 and we helped our buddies to become confident in the big pool. Check out the pictures to see what fun we had!

Week 1!

We've had a greet week in Room 5 to kick off 2011. Sally gave us homework on our first day, but thankfully it was fun homework! We each had to put three small things into our "Me Bag" which we could use to tell our Room 5 friends a little bit more about ourselves. We've had also fun swimming, using the new MOBI and playing some co-operative games together!
Our first day!
