Body Wise

Last term we explored our strengths. As part of this unit each group had to create a task to do with our buddy class that used their strength. Some of the 'body wise' children decided to create an obstacle course for their little buddies. Today was the big day in which they got to set up their course!

Hockey Skills

Yesterday we had our first session of Hockey Skills with a lady from Nelson Hockey.  We had fun playing games like Tunnel Ball and Rob the Nest

What's in your backyard?

Yesterday we began our new inquiry topic 'What's in your backyard?'  To discover what's in our backyard at Nelson Central School we created our own tracking tunnel. We constructed our tunnel by putting some peanut butter in the centre of a sponge soaked in paint.  We are hoping that lots of little critters will sniff out the peanut butter, step onto the inky sponge and then wander through the tunnel and leave their footprints behind.  We can't wait to see what animals are living in our backyard!  To make your own tracking tunnel at home you might like to look at the instructions we used to help make ours below.

We're back into it!

Today we had a busy day to kick off Term 2.  First of all Sally wasn't teaching us, but rather Captain Blood.  She had stolen the treasure chest from Christine's office and wanted to bury it.  The problem was that she wasn't quite sure how to record the distance on her map so others may be able to find the treasure if needed.  Tomorrow Captain Blood has informed us that we will me measuring out the measurements for our new pirate ship.

We also took some time out to celebrate ANZAC day and to remember all those solidiers that died.  We had a wreath laying ceremony and a special ANZAC themed assembly.

Time to celebrate!

Today we celebrated our achievements in Reading by having a class party. We have been building up our reading stamina and reading silently for longer and longer each day.  On the day that the whole class read for over 10 minutes Sally decided that we should celebrate.  When we first began the challenge we could only manage just over two minutes! Many of us have also become quite excited when we finished our first chapter book.
