Science and Technology Roadshow

On Wednesday Nelson Central School had it's biennial Science and Technology Fair.  The Kahikatea Syndicate shared our kites that we designed and made during Term 2.  We enjoyed sharing our designs with others and also looking at what some of the other classes had been up to.  

Fizz, Bang, Pop!

Today we we kicked off our new inquiry topic Fizz, Bang, Pop with a bit of fun.  We had our very own Kahikatea Science Roadshow.  We visited each of the classes in the syndicate where the teachers showed us a fun experiment.

We had fun watching Sally launch rockets using a film canister, Alker Seltzer tablets and water.

We had fun playing with Gloop with Choi in Room 6

 We had ago getting ice to magically stick to string using salt with Jo.

In Room 8 with Christine we saw a simple experiment where ice melted faster in the frypan than it did on the chopping mat even when it wasn't being heated!

We all came away very excited about our new inquiry topic!

Pinata and Kites!

This week marks the end of Term 2. Check out some of the fun we had this week.

On Monday we kicked off the week by having a pinata.  We used this as motivation for our writing for the week.

I had a go at whacking the pinata like a batter hitting a ball.  The pinata looked like a colourful clowns costume.  The pinata flipped, flew and fell to the ground like a monkey that missed the vine.  If you were lucky enough you got a whole lolly pop.  The unlucky ones got a broken one.

We had fun wrapping up our Inquiry Unit Up, Up, Up and Away by holding a Kahikatea Syndicate Kite Festival.  At this festival we had a competition to see whose kite would stay up in the air for the longest.  Well done to Charlie and Archie's for designing and constructing the winning kite!
