Food, fun and crazy hair!

What a fun week we have had this week.

As part of inquiry and reading we have read and followed lots of instructions.  On Wednesday we made Hokey Pokey and then on Thursday we made two different types of fizzy lemonade. One recipe yeast is used to make the lemonade fizzy whilst in the other recipe baking soda is used.  The baking soda recipe didn't taste very nice so we tried adding more sugar and lemonade!  Whilst it wasn't quite like the lemonade you get from the supermarket we enjoyed watching the baking soda and lemonade react and fizz!

Today we have had a crazy hair day at school.  Over $200 was raised to go towards equipment for a sensory room for children with learning needs.  Well done to Amaya who was the winner and Amba a runner up for craziest hair from Kahikatea Synidcate.

Check out Amaya's cupcake hairdo!

You can also check out the weeks recordings from when were recorded for Kids Corner on More FM.  Listen to find out what age we think you are when you become an adult and what winkle pickers.

Our highlights!

Calendar Art 2015 on PhotoPeach
This week we worked hard on our calendar artwork.  You can check out our artwork above or come into the classroom to check out the hard copy. You can have your artwork turned into cards, calendars and notebooks.  Look out for the order forms next week.

Today we were fascinated to watch a documentary on Luca and his family.  Luca was in our class for 5 weeks at the beginning of the year.  His family featured on TV3's programme Kevin McCloud's Escape to the Wild last night. They live on a remote Island in Tonga.  You can watch it here

Today we had fun with our buddies.  They are learning about dinosaurs so we had fun helping them make their own salt dough fossils!

We also enjoyed sharing Dinosaur books with them.

We're going to be famous!

We're going to be famous! Today we were lucky enough to be interviewed by Blair from More FM for the Kids Corner. He asked us interesting questions like What is a winkle picker? and What is a pinafore? Listen to us at 2.40pm on 92.8 More FM everyday next week!

This week for inquiry we learnt about reversible and irreversible change. We learnt that when cooking toast is an irreversible change and melting and freezing water is a reversible change.

Yesterday we were treated to a lunchtime concert by the two Nelson Central School Bands. Our very own Ned is the bass player in the Central Beats Band. Many of Sally's old friends are also in the Central Station Band. Check out them peforming below. If you want to see more look out for them performing at Bandquest on Saturday 22nd August at the Theater Royal.

This week we finally made it to the Public Library to participate in the exhibition on the famous author and illustrator Eric Carle after our previous trip was postponed. He is most famous for his book The Very Hungry Caterpillar  We watched a video about his artwork and then had a go at making our own Eric Carle inspired animals.  You can see our syndicates animals up on display in our corridor

We have also continued to learn about solids, liquids and gasses this week. We enjoyed watching this simple video explaining about the different states of matter.
