Happy Easter from Room 5 and Sally!

Today we had lots of fun having our own little Easter egg hunt.  The girls had fun hiding the eggs for the boys and then the boys enjoyed hiding the eggs for the girls. We hope you have a great Easter enjoying time with family and friends.

3D!

Last week we had lots of fun exploring constructing our own 3D monsters and dragons.  Sally didn't give us any instructions but rather let us explore and trial lots of different ideas.  Before working we discussed what 3D meant.  We decided that 3D=
- Pops out - Floss
- Three Dimensional - Emily
- Like going to the movies it is going to come out and touch you. - Jasper
- Opposite of 2D - Theo

Some of us found it challenging as our ideas didn't quite go to plan.  Hopefully when we design and construct our own animal as part of our inquiry topic we will have gained some new ideas and ways of making things 3D.

Hockey and Soccer

Last week we played hockey at the front of our school. Nicola was the name of the coach. We played a game of rob the nest. She told us how to hold the hockey stick and also how to run with it. She told us that no one was allowed to swing our hokey stick round so we didn't hit anyone.!!!
We   all so played soccer and someone called Charlotte hurt her arm & had to go to hospital and the next day she came with a sling on.  We had heaps of fun playing lots of action packed games!

Animals, Swimming & Purple!

What a week we've had in Room 5! Animals, swimming and purple sums it up well!

On Tuesday we visited Natureland as part of our inquiry topic on animal classification.  We got to meet a wide range of animals including a tuatara, porcupine and lots of very small baby mice! After this we enjoyed a picnic lunch at the Tahuna Playground

Today we held our Kahikatea Swimming Carnival.  We each chose to swim in a length or width race and then we joined with 2 other classes for a class display. Finally we ended the event with a class relay.  We were very proud that we came 2nd out of 5 classes. To see more photos click here to visit our class facebook page

Today we also celebrated Purple Cake Day.  This day is all about kids helping kids all over the world.  At Nelson Central School we raised over $600. This money will be used to help educate and care for children in countries such as Nepal and Kenya.  We were lucky enough to have Caleb's Mum bake us a cake and Emily's Mum come in paint many of our faces!  To check out more photos click here to visit our class facebook page.
